Julia E. Largent is an Assistant Professor of Communication at McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas where she also serves as the Faculty Advisor to The Spectator (student newspaper) and Podrangle (student podcast studio). Her research focuses on documentary studies, fan studies, social media, and nonviolence in video games. She graduated with her Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Bowling Green State University in August 2017. Julia received her MA in Digital Storytelling from Ball State University in 2013. She received her BS in Peace Studies and Communication Studies from Manchester University in 2011. Her peace studies background, alongside her communication and media studies background, gives her a unique look at media. Julia has published and presented on fans’ interactions with social media, virtual pacifism within video games, and user-generated and user-backed documentaries and television shows.
Julia is active in two different organizations: Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and Midwest Popular Culture Association (MPCA). Within BEA, Julia is the chair of the Documentary Division. For MPCA, she is the President and serves as the area chair for Documentary.
When Julia isn't researching or teaching, she can be found playing board games, drinking coffee (also frequently done in tandem with researching), enjoying the outdoors, and hanging out with her cats, Jenkins and Joey.
Julia got married in June 2022 to Jared Kuttler. You maybe also find her under her legal name Julia Kuttler.
